Is it Twitter’s role to remove scientists from public debate?
I just wrote about how science is being broken by silencing counter government narratives.
A quick addition: Twitter is picking off scientists who question the science behind government policy. As I have said, open debate is how science and democracy function.
Twitter is removing scientific experts accounts, and shadow banning others. Here is an example from today: Twitter suspended the account of Dr Clare Craig:
“Dr Clare Craig FRCPath
Diagnostic Pathologist
Clare has been a pathologist since 2001 working in the NHS and reaching consultant level in 2009.
She specialized in cancer diagnostics including diagnostic testing for cancer within mass screening programmes.
She was the day to day pathology lead for the cancer arm of the 100,000 Genomes Project. She was clinical lead for the data team and led on research and development projects at Genomics England and wrote national guidance and helped build bespoke software, working closely with NHSE. Subsequently she has worked on artificial intelligence for cancer diagnostics”.
Below - her account suspension is flagged up by Professor Norman Fenton, UK Professor of Statistics at Roehampton University. Below that - Professor Ray Bhattacharya, an eminent medical researcher at Stanford University, highlights the shadow banning of a colleague.
Please, speak of this, and for those willing to hear, let them speak their concern too.
Thank you.
