A one minute read
The UK is the first country to approve Moderna’s new Covid shot. June Raine, the chief executive of the UK’s Medicines and Health Care Products Regulatory Agency, or MHRA, has said to the BBC:
What this bivalent vaccine gives us is a sharpened tool in our armoury to help protect us against this disease as the virus continues to evolve. (1)
The shot contains material from both the original Wuhan virus, together with the Omicron variant.
The new double Covid shot has been approved on the basis of a study from Moderna that used only 437 people (2). This is nothing but a show trial.
Any such trial needs at least 3000 subjects to allow possible side effects to show through. Any fewer people and it’s possible to miss a significant harm.
Why exactly are the MHRA not insisting on accepted minimum safety standards? The shot is to be rolled out in the UK for anyone over 50. It is planned to be given at the same time as the seasonal flu jab. My understanding is that there should have been an additional safety study done to support the new event of giving the Covid shot at the same time as the flu shot. Is there a study to support this?
What has happened to scientific method designed to protect the public? Who has the public’s safety at the top of their agenda? Anyone trained in research methodology that believes in evidence based medicine has to speak up, and add their voice to those already concerned. The safety of the British public needs to come first.
Meanwhile, Moderna are delighted the UK are set to roll out the new shot this autumn.
